Howell Co. Dinette Table w/ Bronzite Legs and Pongee Walnut Grain Plastic Laminate Top

Who designed it? Who cares. It has Bronzite legs!

Bucket Seats sold separately.

My tiny bit of research tells me The Howell Company of St. Charles, ILL was huge in the world of dinettes. The top is called Pongee Walnut and the legs are Bronzite. How absolutely fab is that?

Bronzite - in the flesh.

Pongee Walnut Wood grain

The condition is good. The piano hinges that hang the drop leaves are well secured. The sliding mechanisms that support the raised leaves are strong. The table has 50+ years of wear on the plastic table top surface, but is still in good to very good condition. The whole thing could use a good cleaning and a polishing of the table top surface.

Sliding mechanism - check!

Tapered legs - check!

Piano hinges - rusty, but more than serviceable - check!

I'm betting that the 4762 number is a manufacturing date. This table looks like 1962 to me so I'm going out on a limb and saying this is from maybe April 1962.

Guess what. It's for sale. For the ridiculously low price of $75 you can have a piece of midcentury dinette history.

In this configuration it is 36" x 60"

With both sides down it is 24" x 36"

Each leaf adds 18" of table surface. Here it is 36" x 42"

You can see it at Friends of Abandoned Animals Thrift Store, 13026 Palm Beach Boulevard, Fort Myers, Fl (239) 267-5309

  1. (I hope this doesn't post twice. I just got an error message, so I'm trying again.)

I wonder if Penetrol cleans up laminate tops as well as it does fiberglass chairs. It might be an interesting experiment to perform on a piece that seems beyond hope.

I'm glad to see you posting again. I hope you're well and that the shop is helping lots of animals.

    1. Hi Dana,

Thanks for your thoughts. Three bypass surgeries later I am doing better, and we have donated over a thousand pounds of feed to animal rescue groups in our area.
