Yeah, I Smoke. So What!

Dig it, Cats and Chicks. The world is coming down hard and fast on we, the last few rebels with a cause. And that cause is freedom of smoking. I've been smoking since the mid 60s, and I look just as good as I did the day I started. My skin is very, very clear, the nicotine stains wash right off, and fortunately the smell doesn't stick to me either so the chicks dig my cologne instead of that ashtray smell.

So being a full time, heavy smoker, I have a fair amount of smoking accessories - and, of course, they're from the good old days.

Come. Enter my world. The world where smoking is still a cool thing to do and I'll show you just how cool it's been through the decades.

Kind of looks like I have one of those thin Clark Gable mustaches in this picture, doesn't it?

My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Lucas smoked Chesterfields. You could see the pack through the material of his shirt pocket.

Is it just me, or do Santa's eyes say "This isn't really tobacco I'm smoking"

I wonder if this ad came after Lee Garner, Jr. took the Lucky Strike account away from Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce?

Santa must have caught sight of a 1940s Cannon Towel photo shoot.

I'd walk a mile for a camel means something completely different in the middle east.

Yeah, I know. You'd kill for a collection like mine. Sammy Davis, Jr gave me that Sands lighter on the right.

If you look closely, you'll see how I got my nick name Bob "I'm Solid State, Baby" Oster.

The stuff on the right? Cut crystal. Believe me I'm a guy who knows the difference between glass and crystal.

And this table I'm standing on - FREE, baby.

That's the end of the tour, baby. Dave was out here last May. Ask him about his visit. He doesn't smoke, but he's an okay guy in my book.

Thank you, and good night.

  1. Hey Bob, Do you ever smoke a pipe when the mood is right?

  2. My granny smoked Chesterfields, she quit long ago thankfully. But I still love these vintage ads, I mean, Santa smoking! Ha, would definitely not fly these days!
In the Murad ad the Santa has some crazy looking peepers!
    Pinning a few of these.

  4. Hey Bob. I'm sure the smell and aroma of these cigarettes from the '60's are still circulating through Vegas' casinos. Don't let the nicotine stain your blades.

  5. Poor Bob...smokers just get no respect anymore. Well, except for Don Draper, who is certainly no better looking than Bob. I don't get it.

I'm fascinated by table lighters. We have a cool Raymor in the store that I love, even though I quit smoking over a decade ago.

    1. No kiddin'! Jon Hamm, Don Draper, Dick Whitman - whatever his name is - is okay looking, but he's no Tom Selleck in the 80s.

  6. There really was an interesting and complex culture built around smoking that has been lost today. Pretty soon they'll just be rounding up all the smokers and taking them to reeducation camps.
